Disability Services Coordinator/Academic Advisor

Inver Hills seeks a Disability Services Coordinator/Academic Advisor to support students with disabilities, coordinate academic accommodations within the college, and coordinate services with outside agencies. The incumbent assists in the advising of students with learning challenges and disabilities, and all students in the general population of Inver Hills Community College.
Application Deadline: July 14, 2014
Appointment: Unlimited full-time. This position requires evening and some Saturday availability.
Pay Range: $39,672- $57,629 annually, depending on qualifications and years of related work experience.
Responsibilities:
Develop an annual plan and establish procedures for measuring performance related to services. Monitor educational progress of student with disabilities.
Conduct intake interviews with all students with disabilities requesting support services.
Provide customized information regarding career choices, academic accommodations, disability documentation, disability disclosure, students rights and self-advocacy.
Coordinate disability services with outside agencies.
Oversee and provide work direction for the professional tutor staff.
Coordinate note taking, interpreting and ESL learning support services.
Research and provide adaptive equipment and/or technology.
Recommend adapted teaching modes to faculty and tutors.
Develop and manage budget for Disability Services.
Provide proactive academic and career advising to foster goal completion for students. Advising is delivered individually, within the classroom, and within small groups.
Assist students with course selection, scheduling, registration, monitor progress towards degree completion and accuracy of degree audit reports.
Teach students the skills, tools, and knowledge needed to successfully complete their degree programs.
Partner with faculty to deliver advising services and interventions within the classroom.
Perform Early Alert and outreach to at-risk and academic warning students to ensure students meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree.
Higher education experience in areas of disability services, advising or career and educational planning
Excellent organizational and communication skills (written, oral and electronic)
Good interpersonal skills in providing individual and small group assistance to prospective and current students
Good problem-solving and analytical skills
Computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in rehabilitation counseling, social work, human services, or related field of counseling or advising
Knowledge of disabilities, disability-related law and support services practices (i.e., ADA, Sec. 504, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act)
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and other information according to federal and state laws and college policies (i.e., FERPA, MGDP, etc.)
Experience with underrepresented students in an educational setting

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
